This Week's Major Arcana

There are two cards from the Major Arcana this week and they are representing the fact that Mercury moves into the zodiac sign of Capricorn on 1 December 2023. Mercury is the planet that rules our thoughts, our speech, and our interactions with others. Capricorn is the business person of the zodiac and is, perhaps the most conservative of all the signs. This will equate to you being down to earth and generating realistic ideas. This will be the time to be methodical and rational, especially in your thinking and interactions with others.

Whilst this may not sound too exciting, this alignment brings lots of benefits to you. As this formation always takes place around the New Year period, it will bestow you with with grounded, goal focused energy that will give you the determination to make realistic resolutions and to keep them. Starting with The Magician, he represents enterprise and knowledge. This card is also associated with diplomacy as a result of his prowess with using words. The Magician can be seen as a talented showman or a conman and according to Roman mythology, Mercury was considered to be the God of Thieves. However, Mercury is typically associated with communication, social networking and how you interact with others. Other things associated with Mercury include wings, winged items and the infinity symbol. Mercury is also closely associated with palmistry, with both pinkie fingers; for example a short pinkie finger suggests that your communication skills need to be worked on, whereas a long pinkie finger may suggest that you talk too much and/or you may be too heavily engaged with social media. The zodiac sign of Capricorn is represented by The Devil. This is not worthy of causing you any undue worry though. This card looks grim the actual association is that Capricorn is associated with the Greek God Pan – half-man and half-goat nature god. The Devil is a symbolic representation of the consequences if you give full reign to your raw desires. The Devil is concerned with what turns you on and if you delve into the taboo areas. The Full Moon on Monday is particularly important as Monday is “Moon” day in Norse mythology and as you may already know the days of the week are named after Norse gods for Tuesday to Saturday, Sunday being named after the Sun and Monday after the Moon. This is only the second Monday in 2023 where the full moon coincides with Moon day. This makes the energy even greater hence more powerful. On this day it is important to reflect on the challenges and resentments you have faced. It’s time to let go of what no longer helps you, especially any resentments which you have been carrying around with you. Remember resentments only hurt you. With this combination, you may well become aware of a willingness or an urge to go into a reflective period that will be enhanced during this time and will allow you to see clearly what has worked well for you, whilst also highlighting those areas that haven’t been so successful. This process will probably guide you to identify the underlying forces that have been impacting your progress. Rather than throwing additional resources to overcome the blocks, allow yourself to use the next few days, maybe even weeks, to identify strategies that should remedy the circumstances around you. Continuing with the theme of how Norse mythology has been used to create names for the different days of the week, the next being Tysdagr or Tuesday. In Roman mythology, Mars is a god of war, as is Tyr or Tir in the Norse traditions. The name Tyr or Tir has been given to Tuesday. Tyr is one of the Aesir and is primarily referred to as the god of justice and war but is also recognised as being wise and brave. On this day of your week, the Moon forms a trine angle with Venus and you could find that you feel fully attuned and flowing with the tides of life. It makes this a very good time for networking with others, particularly reaching out to peers and managers who you discover share your interests and can give you a boost to your career path. It is very likely that you could feel as if your emotions are flowing through you, especially when you are speaking with others who will also discern your emotional state. If you have been facing some particularly challenging times recently, you may feel a release of your emotional grief that will open the way for you to offload and subsequently heal. However, if your life has been going well, it is very likely that you will feel good in ways that will make a positive impression on other people. Carrying on with the Norse influence on the days of the week, we get to Wednesday that is named after the mighty Odin (or Woden) who was the god of war; he is the most powerful and influential of all the Viking gods. He was also known to be wise and also held the designation as the god of wisdom, poetry, magic, death, and divination (it was Odin that brought knowledge of the runes to the world), according to Norse Mythology. Wednesday is particularly important for business and job-related issues, communication, travelling and journeys. It is also considered to be a good day to work on opening up new communication pathways. Odin was the great magician among the gods and was associated with runes. He was also the god of poets. In outward appearance he was a tall, old man, with flowing beard and only one eye (the other he gave in exchange for wisdom). He was usually depicted wearing a cloak and a wide-brimmed hat and carrying a spear. Today the Moon creates a sextile angle with Jupiter, the planet of good fortune. It is quite probable that you will experience a feeling of increased inspiration and a stronger tendency to agree to take on opportunities when they are opened up for you. However, intuitively you will know the point at which to stop, before you hit the overwhelm point. This day would also be good for the generation of new ideas and systems that will give support to the achievement of your goals. The generation of the new ideas could also draw you towards resources that are available but previously unknown to you. Continuing with the Norse theme and days of the week, Thor (Thorsday), son of Odin, best known for wielding his hammer and creating the sound of thunder as he rode in his chariot across the sky, was the powerful god selected to name this day of the week. A belief during this time was that Thursday (Þórsdagr) was a magical day. and it was a good day to plan important meetings or to make decisions. The Moon forms a square angle with Neptune today that will likely result in you thinking your imagination has been set on “warp speed” that could lead you to search for a new way of expressing your creativity. This means that this is a wonderful day for you to be creatively active and to incorporate a thread of fantasy into whatever you are working on. This could result in you looking to escape from the real world through media, be that a book, movie or video game. Today, you could find that you are more sensitive to the triggers around you within your surroundings and this could lead you to feel overwhelmed. Thankfully, this transit is only temporary and will last for just one day. However, you may well find that you begin to critically evaluate the underlying motivations upon which you have built your aspirations. The basis for this challenge may well be coming from an issue within your relationships that you were previously oblivious to. Alternatively, you may identify a conflict between the needs of your family or personal relationships with your wider ambitions outside this narrower band. The origin of the name for Saturday is shrouded in mystery. The history or myths surrounding Saturday is questioned due to Loki’s status as a god. One of the questions under discussion is when Loki became a god, (at birth or later) and if he is a true god or a companion to the gods. The commonly held belief is that Loki is considered a trickster god of mischief and mayhem. On this day, Mercury and Saturn come together to form an angle called a sextile, which is considered to be encourage an active exchange between the two planets involved. You may find that communication or negotiations between large commercial or governmental organisations and the individual employee, customer or end-user opens up. The gathering of feedback from the genuine experiences of “real” people can inform management and has the ability to drive improvements to services offered.
